Once I stood here gazing with a strangers eyes.
It's been six long years since then and I've grown citywise.
Look to the sky above, six long years of grey
But I am running now into light of day...
Six long years ago I was first upon the shore.
No idea what I wanted, found what I was looking for.
Open sky, open dreams on the prairie plain.
But I had to leave for city and my heart was blind again.

These six long years I have lived in hell.
Countless tales of dreams smashed, too many here to tell.
But the landlords always happy, so long he gets his dough.

Who here slept in mill and who slept on their bed?
These shoes I do own, along with clothes I stand in.
But my heart was harder to save, all my dreams a foundering...

So I turned my back on the city and hope others see my wake.
Return to my prairie plain where I have peace to make...
